It must be so fun to have a cousin your same age. Claire LOVED being around Ryan this weekend. She even learned to say his name: "Raaaaa-ra."
When they are trying to hug in the video, it's funny because Ryan hugs by opening his arms up for a hug, (like most of us do, I would think!) But Claire gives hugs by putting her head on someone's shoulder. So it's cute to watch them try to make those two hugging methods work together.
Also, Ryan kisses with his mouth open, and Claire kisses with a little pucker to her lips, so that's cute to see, too!

USS Kidd
An annual event for Baton Rouge is the staged bombing of the USS Kidd. The bombing gives the locals an extremely small taste of some of the fighting that went on during World War II. I really enjoyed watching it.
It began with a fly-by of three F-15 fighter jets.
And then came the enemy planes.
They circled around and came back a number of times.
They even hit the boat.
We could feel some of the impact of the shots and cannons that were fired from where we were standing.
It was pretty cool to see this!

More Fun on the Fourth
After the Splash Pad, we enjoyed some beignets from Coffee Call. YUM!!! Then we rested, relaxed, and played a game of Apples to Apples. We enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, and watermelon. And later, we headed off to the USS Kidd for more Fourth of July fun.
On our walk to the Mississippi River, we saw these mounted police officers. The one on the right noticed how excited Claire was to see the horse, so he stopped and suggested that we get the kids out of the strollers and take a picture with them.
And down by the river, we FINALLY found an open snow ball stand! (We'd been trying to get a snow cone for quite a while, but the shops near us were all closed. - And snow cones are called snow balls in Baton Rouge!) And as we ate our snow balls, one of the ladies who took our order asked if she could take our picture with the snow balls - because we looked so good eating them. She said she's putting it on their website! Fun, huh?!

We watched a staged bombing on the USS Kidd, (find pictures in the next post), and then some hot air balloons started filling up. I love hot air balloons! - Someday, I just might go for a ride in one!
But instead of staying there and watching the balloons take flight, we decided to go back home and let the kids play some more. (And we enjoyed being in air conditioning again. - I believe it was Jordan and Chris whom I overheard saying, "Why did we have to declare our independence in July? Why couldn't it have been November 4th? We could handle being outside and watching fireworks in November!")
So Ryan and Claire wasted no time getting right down to playing!
Later, we headed out again for the fireworks. There were lots of people, (of course), but we found a good little spot and enjoyed the show. Claire stayed home with Jordan, since he had to go to bed early so he could be at the hospital at 5:30am for clinicals today. Maybe she'll enjoy her first fireworks next year.
Kyle and Ryan liked them, though!
I had a great 4th of July! I'm so grateful to live in America. I'm so grateful for those who have sacrificed to serve our country. And it was great to be able to celebrate with some of our family members. God bless the USA!!!

Splashing 4th of July!
This morning we went to a splash pad at a park. What a great way to start our 4th of July! The kids had tons of fun!
And so did the adults! {I mean, so did Uncle Bando!}
Kyle waited and waited for the bucket above him to dump water all over him. He was super excited!
But he was on the wrong side of the bucket when the water fell.
But he didn't care! He just waited some more, and then the water finally dumped right on him!!
Claire got in on the bucket fun, thanks to Dad!
Kyle and Claire had fun under the "umbrella" of water.
Hi, Ryan!
Ryan chased Claire around a little bit, and they hugged. It was cute.
Claire also liked the rainbow of water.
And she loved it when Grandma came with her!
Ryan thought about swinging...
...but he opted to climb instead. And he did a great job! - He successfully got over this little wall a number of times, but Claire never did make it all the way over.
Finally, Claire enjoyed swinging with Dad before we headed home.
...And this is just the beginning of our July 4th Fun!

Patriotic Sunday
We are so happy to have family in town this weekend! I've hardly taken any pictures yet. (I forgot my camera when we took the kids to a children's area at a museum, but you can see pictures on Mel's blog). But I didn't miss the chance to have a family photo taken after church today! (Thank you, Chris!) I enjoyed our patriotic Sunday!
My responsibility at church is to lead the children in singing time every week. I love it! Today they helped me build this American flag. - I was really excited after I made it, {so that's why you get to see a picture of it!!!}
