Like Father, Like Son

A few years ago, Peter made a big cabinet for my mom. (And she loves it!!!) It's outside on the back porch. Well, this week he completely redid it. He made new doors and put new sides on it. He seemed motivated to work on this project.

Since Peter was outside working, Taylor wanted to be outside working, too, of couse! So he got a hammer, some nails, and some wood, and he started hammering away!

You can tell he's really working hard because he's biting his tongue.

He did a great job hammering those nails in the wood!

Here is his project: a house! It has doors, a roof, and it looks like there's a chimney, too!

Fun with Cupcakes!

Today I had a ton of fun with some new friends! Amy and Mark are the proud parents of these cute girls, but today I just got to play with the kiddos! First, I put an apron on each girl, but Jane didn't like hers very much and wanted it taken off. (So her dress got slightly dirty - sorry!) Second, everyone got a plate with a cupcake on it. Third, they got icing and a knife to spread it on their cupcakes. Here's Abby working on step #3.

And then they were off! I helped Jane spread the icing on her cupcake, and then she dove in head first!

The next step was to COVER the cupcakes with sprinkles! Here's Mily (is that how you spell it?) with her beautifully sprinkled cupcake!

I had a great afternoon with my new friends!

We Survived Ike!

Ike was QUITE a hurricane!!! But we survived, and our homes are all in one piece. We spent Thursday and Friday night at Jordan's parents' house. (Work for all of us was cancelled on Friday). The winds began on Friday night, and the power went off in the middle of the night. We woke up HOT because of that, and we heard the wind blowing and blowing!! It was definitely intense! Saturday we listened to the wind some more, and we watched the rain fall. There were some tree branches down in the yard, but the fence was still up, the trees were still standing, and the roof was still on the house. As we drove through the neighborhood, we realized that not everyone was that fortunate. The most we had to deal with was no A/C for most of last night and all of today. It was hot, but I can handle that.

Then we found out that some people near our house had electricity, so we decided to come home and see if we really did have power. We did! We do! Right now we are sitting in our air conditioned apartment counting our blessings! We know that we are so, so blessed. Jordan's parents are here with us. We're glad they get to enjoy our A/C, too!

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We are grateful to be in such a good condition right now. We know that not everyone who survived Ike has such a simple story to tell. It was quite a storm!
