The North End is like a little Italy. And it was one of my favorite parts of Boston to visit. We walked by an older man who looked completely Italian. We heard people speaking in Italian. We learned that there are more than 100 independently-owned Italian restaurants in the North End. Wow! They have to compete against each other for business, but there are so many that must be so good because they are still open! We saw a 24-hour bakery with people who definitely looked Italian inside. They did not seem to be tourists. There were Italian cookies, all sorts of pastries, and lots of other items for sale. They even had trays of assembled, but not cooked, homemade lasagna for sale.
We went inside a shop, DePasquale's Homemade Pasta Shoppe, that makes pasta for you to buy, take home, and cook. They also make homemade pizza dough and smoked sausages, among other things. We had just eaten a big lunch, which was too bad, because we wanted to taste their meats and cheeses! Everything looked delicious! It reminded me of being in Italy with Laura and buying mozzarella cheese, bread, tomatoes, and watermelon for lunch at a market one day. What fun!
Jordan asked the man behind the counter where he goes to eat Italian food. He gave us a few recommendations, but there was one restaurant he recommended the most. So we went there for lunch the next day! Jordan and I both LOVED our meals. We started with an appetizer of fresh mozzarella with tomatoes and basil. Jordan had some meatballs and Italian sausage, and I had pasta in a pesto sauce. I think I have fallen in love with pesto sauce lately, and that one was wonderful!!!! It was all so delicious!
I only took a few pictures in the North End. I recommend making a point to visit this part of Boston if you ever go!
