The Uffizi Gallery is an art museum that is really, really famous. Laura and I walked by it, but we didn't go inside. (There is only so much you can do in one day!!) Here are some looks at both wings of the Uffizi from the outside. These pictures were taken looking towards the Arno River.
The courtyard area pictured above houses the Florence "Hall of Fame," (according to Rick Steves!) The statues are from the 19th century, but they all depict famous figures of the Renaissance who were from Florence.
Here is Leon Battista Alberti. He wrote a book called On Painting, in which he taught about the mathematics of perspective.
Leonardo da Vinci - the ultimate Renaissance Man!
Michelangelo brought Renaissance ideals to Rome - and other places, too.
(Please forgive the bad picture). Here is Amerigo Vespucci - mapmaker and explorer.
And finally we have Galileo, who is holding the telescope he used to spot the moons of Jupiter!
